The character "Nick" is a mean person. His dad gave him some advice and that was that "whenever you feel like criticizing anyone to just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantage that you've have."

Tom is cheating on daisy with another girl
Nick is easier to talk to daisy trusts him more then miss baker.
When daisy was pregnant and had her baby it seemed that she was expecting a baby boy instead of a girl
